CASTELNUOVO RANGONE (ANSA) - This small town in northern Italy has decided to dedicate a monument to the native American Indian to honor this people's history and respect for the environment.
The American Indian, explained Roberto Alperoli, the mayor of this town near Modena, "is a symbol of how the strong oppress the weak and how a false peace is achieved through the annihilation of others".
The monument is part of a municipal cultural project entitled 'Spirits Never Forget' which seeks to "look to the past in order to speak about the future. "We believe that the culture of this people still has a lot to teach humanity today," the mayor explained.
"There is a 'democracy in nature' in Indian culture which western man lacks. And this lack of respect for nature, this cultural arrogance, is making our planet less liveable day by day.
The famous 1853 quote by Chief Seattle will be inscribed at the base of the monument: "The earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself".
According to Alperoli, the history of the Native American should be studied "not only to remember the horror which man is capable of, including the tragic Sand Creek Massacre, but to find a direction for the future".
Man kunne måske også studere indianernes historie for at finde ud af, at man har gjort sig selv til en total narrehat ved at fremstille en folkemorderisk slaveholder som miljøforkæmper på baggrund af et fiktivt citat i et filmmanuskript fra 1972.
For at gøre hele historien endnu mere latterlig vælger italienerne at illustrere historien om den miljørigtige indianer med et billede af en rekonstruktion af Kennewick Man, som stort set alle andre end indianerne er enige om ikke var indianer, og som netop bestrider indianernes påstand om at være amerikas urindbyggere (skelettet er mellem 5.000 og 9.500 år gammelt). Af samme grund har indianerne også de sidste 10 år gjort alt hvad de kunne for at få hans skelet gravet ned igen før arkæologerne kunne få lov til at se på ham. De kunne jo komme for skade at miste førsteretten til kontinentet, og oven i købet løbe ind i uheldige spørgsmål om, hvad indianerne har gjort ved amerikas reelle urindbyggere. Man kommer til at tænke på noget i retning af hvad indianerne selv tuder over at have været udsat for fra de hvide.

The programme, Ancient Voices, shows that the dimensions of prehistoric skulls found in Brazil match those of the aboriginal peoples of Australia and Melanesia. Other evidence suggests that these first Americans were later massacred by invaders from Asia. ...
But if the first Americans had drifted from Australia, where are their descendants now? Again, the skulls suggest an answer.
The shape of the skulls changes between 9,000 and 7,000 years ago from being exclusively negroid to exclusively mongoloid. Combined with rock art evidence of increasing violence at this time, it appears that the mongoloid people from the north invaded and wiped out the original Americans.
